| Arlington's HistoryThe Arlington Baptist Church was started in Pimlico, Maryland. Pastor Peter Bisset began his ministry there in 1945 in the "white house" which was the original parsonage. After several years, the first section of the church was built, a second addition was later built, and eventually a balcony was added. In 1964, the church started looking for a new site. Later that year, a site was found in Hebbville, Maryland. Arrangements were made to purchase the property based on a down payment of $20,000 and payments of $2,000 every February 14th for the next three years. The church had no money except the down payment, but God supplied the amount needed every month until it was paid off. The planning began in 1964 by hiring an architect who prepared plans for submission to Baltimore County. After the plans were made and some preliminary costs were estimated, the church found that the cost would be too much. Consequently, the scope of the project was reduced, and the work would have to be done by the church family. Work began in 1965, and the first phase of the building was completed in July 1968. The building process continued in the following years, building a 300-seat chapel, a multi-purpose room next to the sanctuary, a school building, an annex, an apartment building, and a nursing home. For more than 60 years, Arlington Baptist Church has been proclaiming, and continues to proclaim, the "Good News" of Jesus Christ and His love. The Church remains serious about the work of the Lord, preaching salvation to those who have never heard of the Lord, and encouraging believers in their walk with the Lord. |
